The death of Mrs. Henry B. Carpenter, 61 years of age and resident of Rock Island county 40 years, occurred at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon at her home, 717 Nineteenth street. Eighteen months ago she fractured her hip in a fall at her home and had been ailing since that time. Later complications set in. Her condition had been serious for the past 14 weeks.

Mrs. Carpenter, whose maiden name was Sarah E. DeBord, was born in Mount Vernon, Ky., Sept. 25, 1854. She grew to womanhood in the south, coming to Rock Island county when she was 18 years of age. She was united in marriage to Henry B. Carpenter at Edgington, Sept. 7, 1879. The couple resided there for 33 years before coming to Rock Island to make their home. Mrs. Carpenter was a member of the Broadway Presbyterian church and took active part in the affairs of the societies of that congregation. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.

Besides her husband she leaves four sons: Fred M., Caleb R.,, and Charles H. of Rock Island and Mylo of Edgington, and three daughters, Mrs. D. Y. Butcher, Colorado Springs, Col., and Misses Mary E. and Blanche W. at home.

Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home, Rev. James Edgar Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Chippiannock cemetery. Her four sons will act as bearers.
