He entered VMI in 1917, from where he enlisted in the US Marine Corps on October, 1918. With the Armistice the following month, he was discharged from the Corps - hence, his ribbons. He then entered West Point, graduating Class of 1923, as a Cavalry officer. He initially served in the 8th US Cavalry. In 1935, he was promoted to CPT and transferred to the 26th Cavalry, Philippine Islands. He was in the islands for a year, returning to Letterman General Hospital, Presidio of San Francisco, from where he was medically retired for a line of duty injury. He turns up again as a State Department employee with the OSS in London in 1940. He stayed with the OSS and transitioned to the CIA, serving with that organization from 1946 - 1963. He passed away in Naples, FL in 1971.
