PENNSVILLE, N.J. - William P. Dawson of Pennsville died following a short illness Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, in the Memorial Hospital of Salem County, Mannington Township. He was 81.
Mr. Dawson was born Jan. 1, 1920, in Wilmington, Del., the son of the late John and Mabel Frambes Dawson. He was a lifelong Salem County resident.
Mr. Dawson was an Army veteran of World War II, Company I, 114th Infantry.
He was employed as a store clerk in Jackson Lab of the DuPont Chambers Works, Deepwater, from which he retired in 1979 following 40 years of service.
He enjoyed fishing and collecting lighthouses, and was an avid coin collector.
Mr. Dawson was a member of the DuPont Veterans Association.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Don Dawson and Richard Dawson.
He was survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Davis Dawson of Pennsville; a son, William C. Dawson of Clayton, Del.; two daughters, Joan Nichols of Baldwyn, Miss., and Sharon Bogart of Newark, Del.; a brother, John Dawson; two sisters, Frances Mullen and Harriet Weeks; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Laughrey Funeral Home, 1 N. Broadway, Pennsville, where friends may call one hour prior to the ceremony.
Burial will be in the Salem County Veterans Cemetery, Pilesgrove.
