FORT WORTH - Doris Davis Alexander, 91, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at a local nursing home following a long illness.
Funeral: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Garden Chapel. Burial: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Funeral Home.
Doris Davis Alexander was born in 1909 in Vera on the family ranch. The family later moved to Fort Worth where she attended public schools. Doris graduated from Central High School, now known as Paschal High School. She went on to attend Texas Women's College, now known as Texas Wesleyan University, where she majored in art and some of her work is on display in her sisters home. Part of her life she was employed by U.S. Corp of Engineers where her work as teletype operator was instrumental in the success of containing the floods in 1957 in Fort Worth. She received several commendations for her work from her superiors in the U.S. Corp of Engineers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orange L. Alexander, a World War II veteran; daughter, Doris Ann Hightower; two brothers, Merrick Davis, Chancy Carl Davis Jr.; four sisters, Mabel Anderson, Sanella Gregory, Juliana Fowler and Geneva Howell.
Survivors: Sister, Carleen Swaim; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
