In the 1920 Federal census, Alfred Davis (age 54), his wife Mary (age 38), daughter Thirza (age 27) and Mary's mother were living on Grandview Avenue in Arvada, Jefferson County, Colorado. Alfred, an automobile dealer, was born in Illinois. Mary was born in Colorado.

A much heralded addition to Arvada's business section was the A.L. Davis Block at the corner of Grand View and Wadsworth Avenues. The two story building was finished in April and by June 15, 1916, was occupied on the ground floor by the Davis Garage, which sold Dodge Brothers and Chevrolet cars."

"A.L. Davis, 85, died on December 12. Moving to Arvada in 1907, he operated a lumberyard and sawill and opened Arvada's first automobile agency in 1912. He served as town trustee from 1909 to 1911, and was mayor of Arvada from 1915 to 1917. In 1916 he built the Davis Block at Wadsworth Boulevard and Grandview Avenue."
