She graduated from Osage High School in 1940; she then attended and graduated from the Hamilton School of Commerce in Mason City, Iowa and moved to Washington D.C. to attend Georgetown University. Her schooling was interrupted by the attack on Pearl Harbor and she was hired by General Harley "Hap" Arnold, General of the Army Air Force, as his Executive Assistant. During her time in D.C., Jerry met Lieutenant Joseph S. Beneke, a Navy carrier pilot, and they were married on September 21, 1946. Jerry and Joe celebrated 57 years together and were blessed with two children, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Jerry was a homemaker, a gourmet cook, and an avid reader. She was a competitive bridge player and participated in numerous bridge clubs - one for over 50 years. Jerry was a talented seamstress for herself and her family; she also loved to knit, donating countless blankets to ministries and clubs. She also organized multiple trips and tours for the church and various groups, both in Texas and around the country.
Her greatest love was her family. She used every occasion to serve them by cooking fabulous meals, hosting all holidays and birthdays, and attending every recital, school event, and special activity.
