Benedict Dannemiller came to America in 1830 with big dreams. Benedict was only 17 years old when he arrived in Canton, Ohio. He trained as a blacksmith and excelled in the trade. In fact, he even had a patent on a plow blade. Benedict purchased a grain silo in downtown Akron and eventually left the blacksmith trade and began selling wholesale groceries. This became the Akron Grocery Company. Benedict began roasting and selling coffee all over Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia under the brand name, Betsy Ross Coffee.
