Donald Benjamin Danielson, 79, of East Grand Forks, MN, died on Saturday, March 13, 2010, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Don was born on September 28, 1930, in Bygland, MN, son of Bennie and Bessie (Kjelleberg) Danielson. Don grew up on a farm in Bygland, where he went to country school then went on to graduate from East Grand Forks High School in 1948. Don attended St. Olaf College and later transferred and graduated from MacPhail School of Music in Minneapolis, with a Bachelor's degree in Music Education. He completed his Master's of Music Education at MacPhail and continued his life long education by obtaining over 45 advanced credits.

Don served his country in the Navy aboard the USS Henley during the Korean War. Throughout his four years of service in the Navy, Don was able to travel around the world. Don married Florence Jean Grove on December 19, 1954. He continued to be a member of the American Legion.

He was a vocal music teacher at Hendricks and Breckenridge, MN, before returning to East Grand Forks to teach music for over thirty five years. Don was involved in many music associations. He was awarded the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Director of the Year and an honor award from the Music Educators Nation Conference (MENC). After retiring from teaching, he stayed engaged in "teaching" by continuing to judge music festivals and his involvement in church choir. Don enjoyed singing and loved the opportunity to sing at weddings, funerals, and special musical activities. He was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and a fixture in the community that he loved. Don was elected in the first class of the East Grand Forks Senior High School Hall of Fame in 2001. Don served on the board of the Valley Elder Care, and participated in Concordia's C400 club.
