MRS. GRACE N. DANFORD
Grace N. Snider Danford, eldest daughter of James and Katie Snider, was born June 14, 1867, in Prairie City, ILL. During her lifetime she was among the persons who helped to open three new western frontiers. She came to norther Kansas as a young girl, and later moved to Sumner county, Kansas, when that country was opend to settlement. She made the run into Oklahoma at the opening of the Cherokee Strip, and took a claim northwest of Billings.
She was united in marriage to Charlie Danford in June 1907. He also was a Cherokee Strip pioneer. They made their home on her claim until the husband's death May 29, 1929.
She was born into a Christian home, and gre up loving and serving her Saviour. She delighted in Christian work and gave generously of her time and musical talent to further God's Kingdom. For many years she was a member of the Free Will Baptist church.
She united with the Pleasant Hill Methodist church when her husband was converted and became a member of that church on Easter Sunday in 1914. She was a devoted and faithful worker as long s her health permitted, and a member of the Blackwell Methodist church at the time of her death.
Aunt Grace, as she was known to her many younger friends, had been confined to a wheelchair for seven years, but her optimism and keen sense of humor made her a great favorite among her friends.
With the true spirit of the pioneer, she was ever ready with a helping hand for those who needed assistance. Since she was a kind and lving woman, she was ever devoted to the comfort and pleasure of the ones dearest to her.
After her husband's death, she and her foster niece, Mrs. Gene Barrow, had made their home together. They lilved in Lamont, Deer Creek, and Nardin before moving to Blackwell in Sept. 1941.
Her sister Mrs. Flora Rogillio, a borther, Glenn Snider, and a foster brother Bert Snider, preceded her in death.
Surviving relatives include a niece, Mrs. R.W. Hudson of Oklahoma City, and a nephew, Clifford Erwin of Wilmington, Calif., but those who will miss her most are Mr. And Mrs. Gene Barrow who shared her home, and a wide circle of neighbors and friends.
She passed away at her home at 449 East College, Wednesday morning, Dec. 17, 1952.
Funeral services, under the direction of Porter funeral home, wer held at the Christian church Sunday, Dec. 21, with Rev. Sutton and Rev. V.J. Johnston, officiating, and her body was laid to rest beside her husband in Mount Vernon cemetery near their farm home northwest of Billings.
