Robert W. Dahman, 52, a nine-year City Council member, died at 6:10 p.m. yesterday in the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Marion, where he had been a patient one year.
A lifelong resident of Fort Wayne, he lived at 4306 Lafayette Esplanade. He served eight years on the Board of Works and had been both vice president and president of the City Council.
Mr. Dahman was a candidate for mayor in 1963 and served as Fifth District Councilman nine years. He was appointed chief deputy county assessor in 1962 and was former vice president of the Allen County Republican Club.
A sales representative for General Mills, Inc., for 12 years, he was also former vice president and sales manager of Acme Manufacturing Co. and former president and sales manager of Dalco Distributing Co.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and a charter member of American Legion Post 296. He was also a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Summit City Lodge, 170, F&AM, the Scottish Rite, Mizpah Shrine, Fort Wayne Turners and the Moose Lodge.
Surviving are his wife, Alice; two sons, Robert J., Angola, and Joseph M., at home; his mother, Mrs. Garnet Dahman, Fort Wayne; and a brother, Eugene Dahman, Fort Wayne.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Tom Mungovan Funeral Home, the Rev. Mack Goelein officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Calling will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 1 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
