The funeral service for Gordon J. Dahlgren, 76, Vergas, will be held on Thursday, August 16, at 4 p.m. in the Vergas Community Center with Reverend Gary Klempke officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m. in the United Methodist Church, Vergas and one hour prior to the service in the community center. Burial will be in the Vergas Village Cemetery.
Gordon died on Sunday, August 12, 2007 at Innovis Hospital, Fargo, North Dakota.
Gordon Jerome Dahlgren was born the son of Robert and Alice (Johnson) Dahlgren on August 7, 1931 near Kensington, Minnesota. He was baptized into faith on November 7, 1931 at Pike Lake Covenant Church in Nora Township, near Kensington. Gordon was raised on the family farm and attended country school District 48 and then in 1949, Gordon graduated from Kensington High School. He then began working at the First State Bank of Kensington and in 1952, he attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN earning his BA degree in Economics. During this time, he was united in marriage on October 16, 1954 to Marian Carlson in the First Lutheran Church in Kensington.
Following his graduation from St. Olaf College in 1955, Gordon returned to work at First State Bank of Kensington for one year and then moved to Vergas where he has been involved with the Vergas State Bank until the time of his death. At the time of his death, Gordon was President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Vergas State Bank. He was also a Director at the First State Bank of Kensington.
Gordon had many hobbies, but he especially enjoyed wood working, hunting, fishing and collecting items for his Dairy Museum at the Vergas State Bank. He had been an active member in the Vergas Fire Department for over 20 years. He was elected and served as the Vergas Mayor for 25 years and was a charter member of the Vergas Lions Club. He was also a member of the Detroit Lakes Elks Lodge and the Detroit Lakes Masonic Lodge, the Vergas Commercial Club and many other local organizations. Gordon was an active member of the Vergas Methodist Church since 1956.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marian of Vergas, two sons, Greg (Mary) of Vergas, Lee (Kari) of Vergas, two daughters, Lori (Mark) Olander of Crosby, MN; Julie (Joe)
Bruhn of Moorhead, MN; a sister, Delois (Marvin) Martinson of Alexandria, MN; seven grandchildren, Amber and Garrett Dahlgren, Logan, Drew and Sydney Dahlgren and Jena and Jeremy Bruhn. He is also survived by four step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Alice and a sister at infancy.
