MILLINOCKET - Matt lost his battle with cancer on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, in Millinocket. He was born September 23, 1957, in Millinocket, the son of Edmond and Ruth (Daigle) Cyr.
He was a graduate of Stearns High School, class of 1975. Matt spent his entire life in Millinocket, where he learned the trade of masonry from his dad. He was a workaholic and continued to do small jobs for family and friends up until his passing. Matt always wanted to help people, especially the elderly and others in need.
Matt loved the game of golf, so much so that he was known around town as "PGA Cyr". On warm days after work you could find him on the course with his wife Lorene or playing a round with the guys. Matt and Lorene also enjoyed taking rides up the Golden Road to look at the scenery and wild life. In the winter months he loved to shoot pool and was a member of the Tri-Town Pool League where he had many great friends.
In addition to his mother, Matt is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Lorene and two sons, Bradley Cyr of Skowhegan and Steven Cyr of Lewiston; three brothers, David Cyr and his wife Beth, Ronnie Cyr, and Adam Cyr and his wife Rachel; three sisters, Shirley Lee and her husband Ron, Louise Canning and her husband Dale, and Joanne Cyr; his father and mother in law, John and Brenda Hews; a sister in law, Linda Albert and her husband Bobby; brother in law Ron Hews; and several nieces, nephews, and special friends Bradley Wheaton, Roland Sirois, and Tony Civiello. He was predeceased by his father Edmond Cyr.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 10-11 a.m., Monday, March 6, 2017, at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 19 Colby Street, Millinocket. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Bruce Siket, pastor, presider. Spring interment will be at the Millinocket Cemetery.
