ANCIL CUSHMAN VICTIM IN DEATH ACCIDENT
Ancil Cushman, 26, accidentally killed himself last Saturday morning while hunting in the foothills back of the Guy Millsap place in the Chrome district. Failing to return at noon from the hunt those at the Millsap house became alarmed and started on a search of the hills for Cushman. Late in the afternoon Cushman's body was found in a rocky gulch, a bullet hole through the chin ranging up to the brain resulting in instant death.
The facts of the accidental death as pieced together at the corner's inquest Sunday were that Cushman accompanied by his wife and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Millsap went to the Guy Millsap place Saturday morning which Ancil was to take care of while Guy Millsap was on a trip north. Shortly after their arrival, Ancil decided to go on a hunt. Bob Millsap accompanied him for a short way, but having no gun with him, returned home.
A short time afterward, a shot was heard at the Millsap house, but nothing was thought of it, until noon and young Cushman did not return. Searching parties started out and hunted all afternoon, finding the body in a rocky gulch about five. It is presumed that young Cushman was climbing the gulch using his gun to assist him when it accidentally discharged, the bullet bringing instant death. A verdict of accidental death was brought in by the jury, following the hearing of testimony. The funeral services will be held this afternoon at two at the private cemetery at the Fred Cushman place near Newville. Ancil Cushman is survived by his widow, Mrs. Gwen Rakestraw Cushman, his father, Charles Cushman, and two brothers. - Transcribed by E.
