Elizabeth Manilla Curtis Backman was born July 16, 1915 in Aurora, Utah to Charles Arthur and Nora Harward Curtis. Manilla was the fifth child of nine children. She attended school in Aurora and Salina, Utah. Manilla married Glen S. Backman on May 17, 1947 in Evanston, Wyoming. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on March 29, 1960.
Aunt Manilla loved to quilt, sew and crochet. All family members were the recipients of her many talents. She loved to garden, and had a beautiful yard and a wonderful vegetable garden. The entire family enjoyed many backyard barbeques. Aunt Manilla and Uncle Sandy served a dual role of both aunt and uncle and grandparents to many of the nieces and nephews. Aunt Manilla was a great sport to go camping and fishing with Uncle Sandy and the nieces and nephews. However, she preferred going to lunch or movies and shopping with the nieces.
Preceded in death by her husband, parents, five brothers and two sisters. Survived by brother William Garth Curtis (Renee), sister-in-law Wanda Mary Curtis and several nieces and nephews.
