Darwin Samuel "Sam" Curtis
Darwin Samuel "Sam" Curtis, 45, of Holiday, Fla., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012.
Originally from Athens, he spent most of his life in Florida. He was a member of First Baptist Church in New Port Richey, Fla., where he played an important role in the church's Drama Team. He was a pilot who loved aviation and owned and operated a landscape architect business. He was the family comedian and will be missed dearly. He was preceded in death by his dad, Gene M. Curtis; and one brother. David E. Curtis.
Survivors include his mother, Helen C. Burger Curtis of Holiday, Fla.; his fiancée, Elizabeth "Liz" Thompson of Holiday, Fla.; one sister and brother-in-law, Dianne and Tommie Hope of Athens; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Doug and Deborah Curtis of Spring Hill, Fla., and Dale and Jan Curtis of Holiday, Fla.; several nieces and nephews, Andy and Christi Curtis, Logan and Roxie Curtis, Whitney Curtis and Charles Guthrie, Christy and Daryl Colloms, Cheryl and Richard Russell, Christy and Lynn Plemons and Zachary Curtis; several great-nieces and great-nephews; four aunts and one uncle, Shelby and Wayne Williams, Myrtle Williams, Louise Curtis and Louzelle Curtis; and many cousins and friends.
Graveside services were 10 a.m. Monday at South Liberty Cemetery with the Rev. Johnny Hope officiating.
Pallbearers were Andy Curtis, Logan Curtis, Richard Russell, Trey Russell, Lynn Plemons and Jerry Newman. Honorary pallbearers were Jackson Penley and Garrett Plemons.
Ziegler Funeral Home of Athens was in charge of arrangements.
