Bessie Mae Currin Adcock, a resident of Oxford, died Friday July 20, 2012 at her home. She was a native of Granville Co. and was the daughter of the late James Madison Currin and Fannie Knott Currin and her late step-mother Mary Cole Currin. Bessie Mae was a member of Hester Baptist Church, where she served on many church committees, member of the Hester Sunday School Class, the Women's Circle and kept the church nursery for 26 years. She graduated from Stovall High School and the Smith Dale Massey College in Richmond, Va.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday July 22, 2012 at 3:00 PM in the Hester Baptist Church by Dr. Lavelle Waters and Dr. Randy Bridges. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving is her husband of 68 years, Willie Ray Adcock; daughter, Barbara Adcock Newcomb(Sonny) of Durham; sons, J. Howard Adcock(Linda) of Durham, William T. Adcock(Beth) , Ken Adcock(Kay) and Ernest R. Adcock all of Oxford; sister, Blanche Etheridge of Sanford; nine grandchildren and fifthteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Henry, Roy, Stephen and Joe Currin. Bessie Mae was also survived by her extended family the E. Marable family.
The family would like to thank the caregivers, Linda Morris and Linda Satterfield and also the Amedisys Hospice Care.
The family will receive friends Saturday night July 21, 2012 from 7:00 until 8:30 PM at the Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Hester Baptist Church, 6581 Hwy. 96 N., Oxford, NC 27565.
The Adcock family is under the care of Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home.
