Adair County News, September 22, 1909
Died at the home of her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. John R. Cundiff, Bessie Clevland Banks, beloved wife of John Taylor Banks. Born Aug. 2nd, 1884, died September 17th 1909, at the age of 25 years, 1 month and 17 days of consumption. She had been confined to her bed 6 months. Married February 28th, 1906...
She leaves to mourn her loss a husband and little son, Dennis Banks, 2 years and 6 [sic] months old, an aged father and mother, three sisters and three brothers.
She was aware that her sweet pure life was near the end and on Thursday [September 16th] called her loved ones one by one to her bedside and told them she wanted them to meet her in heaven, her Savior had called her home and gave her little boy on her death bed to her sister, Anna Cundiff... Written by her aunt, Callie Todd. [The eulogy also states, quite indirectly, that Rev. W.S. Dudgeon preached Mrs. Banks' funeral service.]
