Mrs. Carl Odean Cumbest, 86, of Hurley, MS, passed away on Friday, December 9, 2016 in Ocean Springs, MS with her family by her side. Mrs. Cumbest was born on November 19, 1930 in Wade, MS to the late George and Dora Scarbrough. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, and was considered Grandmamma and Aunt Deanie by many. She loved to cook, and was famous for her homemade biscuits and pound cakes. She was a longtime member of Caswell Springs United Methodist Church and will be remembered for her servant’s heart and for the care she showed to everyone.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cumbest was preceded in death by her husband, Cleveland Cumbest, brothers, Buddy (Nelda) Scarbrough, Denvil (Abby) Scarbrough, and Linwood (Anna Leigh) Scarbrough, and sister, Yvonne “Bonnie” (Charles) Goff.
She is survived by her daughter, Carla (Danford) Whittington; son, Doug (Sheila) Spencer; grandchildren, Rustin (Keisha) Porter, Buffie Porter, Jason (Heidi) Porter, and Anna Spencer; great-grandchildren, Jade, Hollis, and Haydn Porter, Kylie and John Rustin “John Boy” Porter, and Bailey Clark; sisters, Joann (Roy) Jenkins and Nancy (Alan) Kalifeh; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of River Chase Village and Ocean Springs Hospital for the loving care they provided to Mrs. Cumbest.
The visitation will be held on Monday, December 12, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Caswell Springs United Methodist Church in Wade, MS. The funeral service will follow at the church beginning at 1:00 p.m. with Bro. Kevin Bradley and Bro. H.W. Parker officiating. Interment will be held in the church cemetery with Doug Spencer, Gray Cumbest, Jessie English, Chadd Cumbest, Dusty Watts, George Scarbrough, Ross Cumbest, and Rob Myers serving as pallbearers.

Heritage Funeral Home, locally owned and operated, in Escatawpa/Moss Point, MS is in charge of arrangements.
