Bertha Helms Crump, 100, of Charlotte, died Saturday, January 12, 2002 at Carolinas Medical Center-University. A service to celebrate her life will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2002 at McEwen Derita Chapel with the Reverend Wesley Judy and the Reverend Debra Short officiating. Mrs. Crump's grandsons will service as pallbearers. Interment will follow in Charlotte Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Born December 20, 1901 in Allen Station, NC, Mrs. Crump was a daughter of the late William and Daisy Hagler Helms. She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde T. Crump in 2001. Mrs. Crump will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a son Howard Crump and eight brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Crump is survived by four children, Betty Phillips and her husband Brooks, Viola Gay, Earl Crump and his wife Barbara, Sue Phillips and her husband David and daughter-in-law, Mary Crump all of Charlotte. She is also survived by two sisters, Marie Huto of Belmont and Margaret Hartsell of Mint Hill, sister-in-law, Pauline Thomas of Concord, sister-in-law, Nettie Helms, and sixteen grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, twenty eight great grandchildren, eight step great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family request that memorials be given to Arlington Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or to the Charity of the Donors Choice. Arrangements by McEwen Funeral and Cremation Service, Derita Chapel.
