John O. Franklin was the son of George Miller Conquest and Mary Tabitha (Eskew) [Moses] Crowell.
His siblings were: Cross Conquest "C.C." Crowell, Annie Catherine (Crowell) Bertling, Lula Oma (Crowell) Ramsey, Minnie Virginia Crowell (born and died Aug. 20, 1877), and Lillie Alice (Crowell) Biggs.
John never married. He did own and operate confection shops in Luling and Yoakum.
John had moved back to McNeil and lived in a small house close to the home of his brother C. C. Crowell for about a year, before a fire destroyed his home and killed him. They suspected he was trying to start a fire in a wood stove, when it caught fire. John was 87 years old, and in poor health at the time, so he was not active enough to save himself.
