Alma Elisabeth Kull Crouse, 96, died at 3:50 PM Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, in Mulberry Lutheran Home, where she had resided since September, after living with her daughter for 14 months. She was born on Sept. 12, 1903, on East Union Street and was baptized on Nov. 1, 1903. She was confirmed into the Lutheran faith in the last German speaking class at St. James Lutheran Church on March 24, 1918.

She attended St. James and Crouch grade schools, graduated from Monitor High School, and attended Lafayette Business College. After being employed for a short time at a bank, she returned home to Pettit to care for her parents, Matthaus and Henriette Kull, who initiated the Vinton Dairy, and made their residence in what is now known as the Vinton Addition. They both came to the United States from Germany.

On Sept. 21, 1927, she married P.L. Crouse, from Farmers Institute, in her parents' home. She was a homemaker and helped her husband on their "Pinhook Farm" in Jackson Township. Mr. Crouse retired from the Monon Railroad, and preceded her in death on June 12, 1985.

Mrs. Crouse was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, St. James Ladies Society, and the Fairfield Township and Jackson Township Homemakers clubs for over 50 years. She also started the Just for Fun Euchre Club. She enjoyed watching her sons play basketball, and encouraging her children in 4-H. She was a Purdue basketball fan.

Surviving are two sons, Daniel Crouse of West Point and Thomas Crouse of Lafayette; and three daughters, Jean Alt of rural Buck Creek, Mary Joan Vannnice of Sanibel, FL, and Janet Myer of Lafayette.
