Norman Lloyd Crounse, son of Edwin and Delila Collins Crounse, was born Dec. 13, 1904 at Lincoln and died Feb. 27, 1990 at Belleville, Kan. at the age of 85 years.

Norman graduated from McCool Junction High school in 1922 and York College in 1950. Norm went one year to Iliff School of Theology in Denver. From there he went to Central Lutheran Seminary, graduating in 1956 with his masters of divinity degree.

Along the way he met and married Opal Leona Eden in Lincoln on June 12, 1929.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star of Chester, the Hubbell Lions club and as a pastor was a member of the Nebraska Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Norm was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, George, Donald, Dale and John Crounse.

He is survived by his wife Opal, sister Dorothy and her husband Henry Neufeld of McCool Junction, cousins Rex Hays of Yankton, S.D. and Dea Hays of McCool Junction, nieces and nephews and a great many friends.

Norman spent his boyhood in McCool Junction and after graduation went to the Sandhills near Hyannis. He worked on several ranches including the Dumbell, Bert Hayward and Chris Abbott ranches. It was on the Chris Abbott ranch where Norm had an accident forcing him to quit coyboying (sic) and breaking horses. He came back to Lincoln in 1927 and worked for several dry cleaning businesses before owning one for a time.

Norman and Opal farmed for a while until 1946 when he entered the ministry and preached his first sermon in the McCool Methodist Church. He served churches in Saronville, Kit Carson, Colo.; Fairfield, Craig and Alder Grove, Omaha East Avenue, Fullerton, Rising City-Shelby, Ulysses, Surprise and finally Chester-Hubbell where Norm and Opal retired in 1977.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 2, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Chester, conducted by Rev. Randy Dilts and Rev. Elwood Fleming.

Music was by Mrs. Jack Long and Mrs. Maurice Mitchell, accompanied by organist Mrs. Dolan Frye.

Casket bearers were Mike Shinn, Herman Gilkerson, Neal Eickman, Dean Coonrod, William Mumm and Ronnie Mumm.

Masonic service by Chester Lodge No. 298 AF&AM, Chester.

Graveside service at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery, Lincoln, at 3 p.m.
