Rulon James "Hemi" Crook, 89,of Smoot died Dec 21, 1986 at the Star Valley Hospital due to complications, incident to old age.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday Dec 23, at the Smoot Ward. Burial was under the direction of Schwab Mortuary in Smoot.
Hemi was born Aug 8, 1897 in Smoot to William Joshua Crook and Harriett Jane Howell. His early schooling was a log cabin in Smoot that utilized planks of wood for the desks. He attended Fielding Academy at Paris ID for one year before he started high school at Afton. On June 1, 1921 he married Rula Janett Peterson in the Salt Lake Temple.
He was an active member of the LDS Church. At the age of 15 he was called on a mission to New Zealand. After five years he returned home to finish his schooling. Following his marriage and the birth of four children, he was called to serve again in New Zealand for another two years. On his return, he served three stake missions and was a ward clerk for 16 years.
An avid sports fan, he was a member of the first high school basketball team from Star Valley sent to state tournaments. He and his wife, Rula, owned and operated the Smoot Store for 27 years.
He is survived by his wife of Smoot Rula J. Crook; two daughters, Mrs Wendell (Ened) Crossley, Smoot and Mrs Dix (Vonda) Bateson, Salt Lake City; one son James P. Crook, Iona ID and brother, Harvey O. Crook, Smoot 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Cleta.
