Amos J. Critchfield, 78, of Blairsville, formerly of Ligonier, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2006, in Excela Health Latrobe Hospital.
He was born July 4, 1928, in Trent, Pa., a son of the late James and Lottie Stout Critchfield.
Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a coal miner by the former Florence Mining Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict.
He was a member of the Ligonier Township Sportsmen's Club, the American Legion 128 of Bolivar and the New Florence VFW.
He is survived by three daughters, Sarah, Josephine, Patricia Bier, Bradenville, and Becky Forsythe and husband Kevin, Robinson; two sons, James R., Bolivar, and Russell E. and wife Darla, Odessa, N.Y.;
Also surviving are 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; seven sisters, Hilda Carns, Torrance, Daisy Luther, Ruby Roberts and husband William, Lee, and Marian, all of Ligonier, Bonnie McFarland and Sherry, Laughlintown; and a brother, James T. and wife Bridget, Ligonier.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sarah Taylor Critchfield, in 1971; his second wife, Amy Boring Critchfield, in 1990; and a sister, Blanche Hutchison.
Friends were received at the J. Paul McCracken Funeral Chapel, Ligonier, where a funeral service was held Monday with the Rev. George Umphlett Jr. officiating.
Interment was in Menoher Memorial Park, Ligonier.
