MACON - Edward Francis Crew, of Macon, died peacefully at home on Monday November 29, 2010.
Ed was born on October 12th, 1917 in Dalton, MA to Johanna and Hugh Crew. He was preceded in death by his brother Hubert, his sister Mary, his first wife Terry and second wife Mary. He was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Dalton High School in 1936 and was a veteran of WWII. He was employed as a salesman in the heating and oil business until his retirement in 1983. He and his wife Mary resided in Ocala, Florida from 1983 until 1999, at which time they moved to Macon, GA to be closer to his daughter, grandchildren and their families. Ed was an active member of St. Joseph's Church. A man of many gifts, he was an award winning artist, a musician, an avid golfer and later in his life a peace activist. Though too numerous to list, Ed was involved in many community organizations including Rotary, Happy Wanderers Singing Group and the Middle GA Art Association. He remained active throughout his life even playing golf and teaching art lessons until the week of his death.
Ed was a very beloved man who always had a quick smile, ready laugh, helping hand and kind words as evidenced by his own writing: "Just remember you were loved by me in life and will be loved by me in death. I hope the future will always have a way of bringing you joy and happiness. I know it has for me. Remember whatever has passed has passed and what is ahead of you is what counts. Make the best of every day. Please don't grieve over my passing just carry on, love each other no matter what, and love God above all for He loves you." Left to cherish his memory is his daughter Barbara Crew Fischer, Grandchildren Debbie Saddler, Michael (Robin) Reardon, Kathee Mayne, Lorri (Angie) Fischer, and John Eric Fischer plus eight great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and nieces, Lorraine, Gail, Joan, Gerry and Jean.
