John C. Crain, b: 1821, was a son of Dennis Crain, the patriarch of the Crain Clan of Washington Parrish, LA. One of his four sons who remained in Washington Parrish, John married Melvina Knight and raised a family of 15 children. He is believed to be the ancestor of the largest number of Crain's still living in the area. He is the only one in his immediate family to live into the 20th century, not passing on until October 1902.
