Betty Drain (née Crabtree), of Chuckey, died peacefully Sept. 3 at the age of 79.
Betty was born on Feb. 15, 1937, in Riverside, Calif., to her parents, James Herman and Mary Edythe Crabtree.
She married Warren Lynn Drain in 1957. They were Greeneville's "June Bridal Couple" of the year.
She was an active member of the Walkertown community.
Betty was an accomplished violinist and graduated from Tusculum College with a degree in music education. She taught music in county elementary schools and continued her passion for teaching, playing and enjoying music throughout her life.
She was an award-winning activities director at Life Care Center of Greeneville for many years and enjoyed sharing the arts with all ages.
Betty is survived by her children: Diane Shackelford and her husband, Jerry Shackelford, of Murfreesboro, and Maxwell Drain and his wife, Carolyn Schult, of Granger, Ind.; her sister: Ada Jaynes and her husband, Jack Jaynes, of Afton; and her four grandchildren: Sarah Shackelford, Hallie Shackelford, Benjamin Drain and Alex Drain.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Lynn; her brother: John Crabtree; and her parents.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Notre Dame Catholic Church with Father Dan Whitman officiating. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Betty's life.
Interment will take place at 2 p.m. at Andrew Johnson National Cemetery.
