Cheryl S. Halat 63, of Huntley, passed away early Wednesday morning, June 11, 2008, in her home following a courageous battle against ovarian cancer, with her family by her side.

She was born May 27, 1945 in Eldorado, IL, the daughter of Orvil and Opal (Phipps) Cox of Omaha, IL. Cheryl met her husband, Thomas C. Halat while in college at Southern Illinois University, and they were wed December 17, 1967 at St. Peter Damien Catholic Church in Bartlett.

Cheryl and Tom owned Tom's Farm Market and Greenhouses in Huntley, originally starting in Bartlett, IL 40 years ago. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntley and a participant in CRHP (Christ Renews His Parish).

Surviving are her husband of 40 years, Tom; three children, Jeffrey T. (Cheryl) Halat of Genoa, Mary S. (Paul) Manning of Hampshire and Elizabeth A. (Sam) Vazzano of Marengo; eight grandchildren, Jillian, Bridget and Mitchell Halat, Jacob and Molly Manning and Gracie, Samantha and Hunter Vazzano; her sisters, Alta Lee (Gordon) Welch of Norris City, IL, and Delores Ledford of Naperville; her brothers, Orvil (Donna) Cox, Jr. of Hazelwood, MO, and Glenn (Yvonne) Cox of Norris City, IL; and her companion and caretaker, Susie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Judith Battleiger; and a daughter-in-law, Janis Halat.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, Monday, June 16 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Huntley/Dundee Rd., Huntley with Fr. Stephen J. Knox officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Union. Visitation will be at St. Mary Catholic Church on Sunday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM, with prayers at 7:30 PM. It will continue Monday morning at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 AM.

Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to the Cheryl Halat Memorial Fund (To help fund ovarian cancer research) c/o James A. O'Connor Funeral Home, P.O. Box 74, Huntley, IL 60142.
