Fluitt Cornellus Cox, 41 year old farmer and sawmill man of Hemingway, died at 4:30 Thursday Morning in the Johnson Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Cox had been in good health until recently when he was stricken with a heart attack while driving to the hospital to visit his mother.
Funeral services were held at the Morris Funeral Home at 4 p. m. Friday afternoon by the Rev. LeRoy Caulder, pastor of the Hemingway Baptist Church. Burial was in the Old Johnsonville Cemetery.
Mr. Cox was the son of Mrs. Cornelius Cox of Hemingway and the late Robert Fluitt Cox. He lived his entire lifetime near Hemingway, where he owned and operated a sawmill for 15 years and was engaged in farming.
Active pallbearers were Dick Baxley, Hurthbert Davis, Jim Williams, Doward Fenters, C. G. Springs and Willie Tanner.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his widow, the former Miss Clara Powers of Hemingway; one daughter, Loretta Anne Cox of Hemingway; one sister, Mrs. Clifford Watford of Florence; five brothers, Hoyt Cox, Vasco Cox and Emmett Cox all of Hemingway; Elliott Cox of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Floyd Cox of Georgetown.
