Carl Eustace Cox Jr., 81, of Fredericksburg died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at Mary Washington Hospital.

Born in Fredericksburg, Mr. Cox had retired from civil service at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division. He was a member of Fredericksburg Baptist Church and was a Navy veteran.

Mr. Cox was the widower of Catherine Nash Cox.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Brenda Nash Haislip of Stafford; a stepson, Franklin Nash of Northern Virginia; two stepgrandchildren; and a niece, Bonnie Cox Harrison of Chesterfield, and two nephews, Henry W. "Buck" Cox of Blacksburg and Robert A. Dameron of Anderson, S.C., his caregivers.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Oak Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. J. Larry Haun officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Fredericksburg Baptist Church General Fund, 1019 Princess Anne St., Fredericksburg, Va. 22401.
