SOUTH BEND — Clara G. Cox, 84, of Essex Drive, died Wednesday at Kingston (N.Y.) Hospital.

Mrs. Cox was a former special education teacher at Emmons School, Mishawaka.

She was born Nov. 28, 1908, in Franklin, Ind. She married Gregory Beard Cox. He died in 1968.

Surviving are two sons, James D. of Woodstock, N.Y., and Col. J. Thomas of Portland, Ore; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister, Mary Barnes of Murray, Ky.

She was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority, Psi Iota Psi Sorority, South Bend Questers and Albright United Methodist Church of Mishawaka. She attended Franklin College and graduated from Bethel College in 1963. She did post-graduate studies at Saint Mary's College.

She pioneered development of a special education department in the early 1960s at Emmons School.

Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday in the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood Drive.

Memorial contributions may be made to Family and Children's Center, 1411 Lincolnway West, Mishawaka.
