Eugene C. Cowan, 88, of Brenizer, died Nov. 18, 2007 at Bethlen Home, Ligonier. He was born Nov. 11, 1919 in Gray Station, the son of John Cowan and Sarah Harvey Cowan. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Local 1451, of which he was a member for over 50 years. He loved to build model airplanes, but his real passion was hunting, fishing and camping with his family. Four great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. The family would like to thank everyone at Bethlen Home for their outstanding care and compassion shown to Gene and his entire family during his illness. Gene is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Kovalish Cowan, Brenizer; son, Patrick E. and wife Charmaine, Blairsville; daughter, Sandra B. Fritz and husband Edwin Jr., Latrobe; Also surviving are a grandson, Timothy P. Cowan and wife Darlene, Blairsville; granddaughter, Tammy L. Pizer and husband Robert, Black Lick; great-grandsons, Nicholas P. and Tyler D. Cowan; great-granddaughters, Kaylee and Kristina Pizer; sister, Helen Hutcheson Noel, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John "Jack"; and sisters, Naomi Riffle and Sally Dixon. In keeping with Gene's wishes, there will be no visitation. A private interment will be held in Twin Valley Memorial Park. James F. Ferguson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
