Catherine Mary Blake was born on May 8, 1879 at 30 Travistock Street in Higher Stoke, England to George Blake (1856-1910) and Emma Jane Bravin(1858-1928). She married Robert Edward Couzens (1876-1919) on April 24, 1905 at St. Mark's parish church in Ford, England. At the time of their marriage Robert worked in a biscuit factory. Catherine and Robert had one daughter Eileen Marjorie Couzens who was born on April 23, 1906 at 23 Wachington Road, Cavercham, England. Robert emigrated on April 9, 1913 from England to America sailing on the S.S. Majestic and arriving in New York on April 17th. Catherine and Eileen left Southampton on June 28, 1913 sailing on the S.S. Philadelphia to join Edward in Brooklyn, New York. They were joining two of Catherine's brothers (George and Thomas) who were already living in Brooklyn. Catherine's sister Florence joined them in Brooklyn in 1914. Robert was a motorman at the 9th Avenue Depot, New York Transport. Catherine, Robert and Eileen Couzens, and George and Thomas Blake all resided in a two family house at 311 Vanderbilt, Brooklyn, New York. Sometime, before April 20, 1919 George and Thomas moved out of the apartment. A tragedy befell the Couzens family on April 20, 1919. Mary, Robert, and Eileen, who was almost 13 years old, were all victims of accidental asphyxiation from a leaking illumination gas jet sometime between Saturday night and Easter Sunday morning when they were found. Eileen would have been confirmed that morning at the Prospect Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church. Her white confirmation dress was laid out and ready for her to put on in the morning. The family was buried on April 24, 1919 in Evergreens Cemetery located at Bushwick and Jamaica Avenues in Brooklyn, New York.
