The daughter of Rev Harold A & Betty Jean Smith.
She married Willard Couch 26 Apr 1959, who was in the US Navy. They soon moved to San Diego, California, where her husband was stationed. Four years later, they moved to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and were there for four years. While there, she was employed at the local wigwam store. They were then transferred to Groton, Connecticut where she worked at the base post office and the base commissary store. She returned to Joplin while her husband was serving a tour of duty in the Republic of South Vietnam. While in Joplin, she was part of the Wardads. (Wives of servicemen stationed in Southeast Asia).
After a year, she traveled with her husband to Dunoon, Argylshire, Scotland. While in Scotland, she was on Scottish television, which broadcast to all countries in the British empire. She returned to the U.S. and lived in Bremerton, Washington, and onto San Diego, California. In July of 1977, she moved back to Joplin, Missouri.
Joyce was a longtime member of First Gospel Workers Church. She was a very talented self-taught pianist. She was a member of the Cactus Jack Band, which was made up of her family members. Together they played at nursing homes; political fundraisers; and even for Congressman Mel Hancock. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
