Ruth Louise Blurton, 84, died Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Hodgeman County Health Center at Jetmore, KS.

She was born on May 28, 1924 at Rocky Ford, CO the daughter of Leander and Hazel (Henry) Cothren. Mrs. Bluton was raised in the Rocky Ford, Colorado area, and graduated from Swink High School. She married Dean Blurton on January 24, 1948 in Colfax County, New Mexico, he preceded her in death on December 21, 1995. Mrs. Blurton attended St. Anthony's Nursing School were she received her registered nursing degree. She worked at St. Anthony's Hospital as a registered nurse for Dr. Bush. Mrs. Blurton was also in the U.S. Cadet Nurses Corp. She has been a resident of Dodge City since 1947 moving from Rocky Ford, Colorado.

Survivors include four sons John and wife Connie Blurton of Jetmore, Jim and wife Jackie Blurton of Silver City, NM, Jack Blurton of Scottsdale, AZ and Joe Blurton of North Dakota, and one daughter Jane and husband Monte Culver of Dodge City. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Johnny Cothren and Harold Cothren, and one sister Leona Barnett.

Graveside service will be held at Greencrest Cemetery on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 10 AM with Carolyn Tarman presiding. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Friday, May 8, 2009 from 2-8 PM. Memorials can be made to Kansas Genealogical Society in care of the funeral home.
