Gertrude May Avens, 85, who was born on May 13, 1924, died on Dec. 7, 2009. She was the daughter of the late Clarence and Vera Corson of Roselle, N.J., and Philmont, N.Y., and was the seventh child of 14. Gertrude was the secretary of Park Tree Service. Her husband, James Avens Sr. of Roselle Park, N.J., and Ghent, N.Y., survives, along with her sons, Reverend Mark Avens, Doug Avens, Jim Avens, Gary Moyer, Jeff Avens and daughter-in-law Kathleen Avens; her grandchildren, Amanda, Allison, Kristina, Faith and Jacob Avens. Worship service is on Friday, Dec. 11, at 11 a.m. at the Bible Baptist Church, Ghent, N.Y.
