Dorothy "Dot" M. Cornwell, age 83, of Dardanelle, AR died Wednesday, June 9, 1999 at her home in Dardanelle, AR. She was born April 30, 1916 in Brewer, ME to the late Merle H. and Ruth Lawrence Spiller. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and American Legion.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Gilbert Greene Cornwell Sr. and one sister, Lucille Spiller Sweat. After graduating high school in Bangor, ME, Dot moved to Boston, MA where she worked as a buyer for W. T. Grant s before attending Burroughs s Business School of Boston. Upon completion she then worked as office manager for United Shoe and Machine Company. While working for W. T. Grant s she met future husband, Gilbert Cornwell. They moved to Dardanelle in 1946 and started their own retail store, "Cornwell Dress Shop.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gilbert Greene Jr. and Ann Hindsman Cornwell of North Little Rock, AR; three grandchildren, Brett Lawrence Cornwell and wife, Diane of College Station, TX, Arden Cornwell of Fayetteville and Amber Cornwell Pinter and husband, Ben of Fayetteville and three great-grandchildren, Ryan Cornwell Pinter, Andrew Hindsman Pinter an Catherine Ann Pinter all of Fayetteville; one sister, Eleanor Spiller Curtis of Zephyrhills, FL; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Cornwell and Roberta Cornwell of Dardanelle, AR and one brother-in-law, Thomas Ray Cornwell Sr. and wife Florene of Prairie Grove.

Services were held Friday at the Cornwell Funeral Home Chapel in Dardanelle with the Rev. Milton Growling officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the UAMS Cancer Research Center in Little Rock, AR. Arrangements in care of Cornwell Funeral Home of Dardanelle, AR.
