He lived in Pacific Beach the rest of his life. He is survived by his wife Marian (Dee Dee) of 54 years, and one son Mark. Gene graduated from La Jolla High in 1941.
While attending San Diego State, he was inducted into the Army in 1943. He attained the rank of Sergeant and commanded a tank destroyer in the 3rd Army 601st and 776th TD Battalions in Europe and Italy. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
During his life, he worked as an Estimator for heating and air conditioning. He enjoyed wood working and spending time at his fish camp in Baja.
Services will be held at Pacific Beach Mortuary, Friday Sept 10, 12pm followed by graveside burial at El Camino. In lieu of flowers, donations to your favorite charity. Published in The San Diego Union Tribune on Sept. 9, 2004
