LYDIA ROSS CORBIN

Lydia J. Ross, daughter of David and Esther Ross, was born near Croton, Licking County, Ohio, Sept. 24, 1843 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chas. White east of Afton, July 24, 1930, being therefore 86 years and ten months of age. She was united in marriage to Levi Corbin October 8, 1868 and was happy in that relationship till his passing a short time ago. To this union were born three children, Mary A. who is Mrs. Chas. White living near Afton; Lory D. Corbin who passed away Feb. 14, 1922 and Nettie L., who died at the age of 1 year and 9 months. There is one sister, Rachel A. Walker, of Croton, Ohio, and three grandsons; Leonard White, Leonard D. Corbin and Floyd H. Corbin. Two great grandsons, one step-daughter, Mrs. Caroline Irons.

At the age of 18 she united with the Universalist Church near Croton, Ohio and remained a life-long member of that church preferring it to all others and was a happy Christian believing in Christ as Savior and Master. Her favorite chapter in the Bible was St. John 14. "Abide with Me" and "The Old Rugged Cross" were her favorite hymns.
She came with her family to Iowa, after a sojourn in Illinois, twelve years near Galesburg, to the farm home east of Afton where she died. She was a member of the W.R.C. and the Rebecca Lodge, and took an active interest in whatever was good and profitable about her. She attended the Methodist church in Afton when she was able. Hers was a rich, abiding faith in the things of God and right living. Living to be nearly 87 years of age, with her ability to make and keep friends she had a wide acquaintance who mourn the passing of this good woman. She died as she lived, happy and unafraid.

The body was laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, near Afton.
