NEWTON – Mary Copas Bishop, 77 of Newton passed away on May 11, 2010 at Palliative CareCenter and Hospice of Catawba Valley.

Born Sept. 12, 1932 in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late Fred T. and Rosalee Spencer Copas.

Mrs. Bishop was a nurse for over 48 years. She loved her profession and was known as "Mary Sunshine".

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bruce Belton Bishop; sister, Nadine Copas Price and brother, Jerry Copas.

Survivors include a daughter, Robin Hoyle and husband, Kenny of Sherrills Ford; a son, Benjamin Bishop and wife, Sherry of Hickory; grandchildren, Heather Thomas and husband, Tommy of Maiden, Lee Hoyle and wife, Nikki of Maiden, Brittany Bishop of Hickory and Gavin Bishop of Hickory; great-grandchildren, J. T. and Cooper Thomas, and Austin and Taylor Hoyle; two nephews and four nieces.

Graveside services will be held at Catawba Memorial Park on Friday, May 14th at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 13th at Catawba Funerals & Cremations from 6 – 7:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Palliative CareCenter and Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
