Alberta (Cooper) Armstrong was born on February 22, 1928 in Bedford County, Tennessee, the daughter of James "Dillard" Cooper (1905–1946) and Clarice Louise (Womack) Cooper (1906–1991).

She was married on September 2, 1944 in Bedford County to James Benjamin Armstrong (19 Jan 1923–2 Nov 1996), who was born in Howell, Lincoln County, Tennessee, the son of Benjamin Thomas "Ben" Armstrong (1884-1936) and Martha E "Mattie" (Shelton) Armstrong (1886-1 Apr 1947). Her husband James had worked for Sealtest Milk Company for 26 years.

Alberta was a member of United Baptist Church in Shelbyville and she was retired from THE TENNESSEAN and NASHVILLE BANNER newspapers.

She was 84 years old and a widow when she passed away on November 12, 2012 at Glen Oaks Health and Rehabilitation Center, Shelbyville.

Preceded in death by her husband James, brother Howard Cooper and by her sister Aleta Sadler, Alberta was survived by four daughters and two sons-in-law, two married sisters, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held on November 15th at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel, and burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Shelbyville.
