Benjamin J Cooper rode with John Hunt Morgan as a member of Company K, 8th Calvary CSA and was taken prisoner near Bluffington Island, Ohio during Morgan's ill-fated raid in the summer of 1863. Ben was a POW at Camp Douglas, Chicago, from August 22, 1863 until he was paroled and sent to Point Lookout, MD on February 24, 1865.

Per his great great niece my grandmother was Ben's niece and all the family records in my possession refer to his first name as Benjamin, not Benedict.
