Birth: Nov. 7, 1923
Bradford County
Pennsylvania, USA
Death: Feb. 22, 2012

Ralph W. Cook, 88, of Campville, NY, died peacefully into the arms of his loving Lord surrounded by his family, Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at the NYS Veterans' Home in Oxford, NY. Ralph was born November 7, 1923 in Orwell, PA. He served our nation during WWII on the USS Intrepid, as one of the ship's cooks. His off duty station was as a gunner and he served during one of the kamikaze attacks on that ship. Ralph was a charter member of the Campville Fire Department and an active member of the Owego VFW Post #1371. He retired from IBM in Owego and was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. Ralph excelled at many sports: baseball, bowling, snowmobiling, horseshoeing, and his favorite, golfing. For a number of years, he and friends made a yearly golfing trip to Myrtle Beach and he played at just about every local course. He once had a hole in one at the Genegantslet Golf Club. In his younger years, Ralph played baseball on various local town teams and was credited with being quite a good ambidextrous pitcher. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and all things outdoors. He especially loved camping with his family and good friends at Golden Beach on Raquette Lake in the Adirondacks for over 50 years. We know Ralph will be remembered for his love of people. To say Ralph made friends easily is an understatement and he touched many lives. He loved to spend time with people whether it was at a family reunion, around an Adirondack camp fire, or sitting on the front porch. But most of all, Ralph loved his family; his one and only wife of 67 years, Vivian R. Cook; sons and daughter-in-law, Karl Cook (Predeceased); Christopher R. and Paula Cook; daughter, Kate (Cook) McCain; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Brent and Beth Fishchthal and their children, Allison and Grant, Kevin and Connie Fischthal, and their children, Aden and Juliette. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February, 28, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Owego. Military Honors will be accorded by the VFW Post #1371 Honor Guard. Burial will follow in the Darling Cemetery, Rome, PA. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:00 Noon to 1:45 prior to the services at the funeral home. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ralph Cook's memory to the VFW Post #1371 or the Campville Fire Department.
