Benjamin Cook was born in Hanover in 1793 and served in the War of 1812. He was a cabinet maker and undertaker at Hanover. (Cabinet makers often made coffins, which moved them into the undertaking business.) He married Cecilia (usually rendered as Celia) Losey (often rendered as Lacy), daughter of George. Their children were Andrew J., who died in the Civil War, Edward who died at the Battle of the Wilderness, Luther, who died at Andersonville, James, Isabel, who married V. Sayres, Gertrude, who married a Doty, and Captain Hiram, who, though wounded and maimed, survived the Civil War, and prospered as a carpenter and builder in Verona. Benjamin's father was Williams Cook and his mother Betsy Bedford, making him a brother to Sarah Cook Courter, buried elsewhere in the cemetery. Email from Wilson Brown 1/30/09.
