Services are scheduled at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Trinity Temple Assembly for Avelino Villa Contreras of Artesia.
Mr. Contreras, 94, died Thursday, May 29, at his home.
There will also be visitation at Terpening and Son Mortuary Monday, June 2, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Avelino was born March 23, 1920 in Durango, Mexico; the son of Victor Contreras and Anita (Villa) Contreras. He came to Artesia in 1957 from Pecos, Texas.
On Dec. 22, 1942 he was married to Beatriz Gomez in Mexico. She preceded him in death on March 20, 2014.
He was a Farm Laborer, a member of Ancla dela Fe, a grandparent at Headstart and enjoyed making baskets and fishing.
Mr. Contreras was preceded in death by his parents; sister Josephina Duenas; and 2 great-grandchildren.
