Services for Charles Willard Cone, 70, of Branson, MO, formally of Thomasville, Ga Auburndale and Winter Haven, Fl will be held on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Allen and Allen Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Lee Waller will officiate and interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Cone passed away Friday, September 21, 2012 in Denton, Texas surrounded by his loving family. Born September 25, 1941, in Boston, Ga., he was the son of the late Mary Griffin Cone and the late Frederick and Naoma Cone. Mr. Cone was a 1959 graduate of Thomasville High School and was a veteran of the US Army Reserve. He owned and operated Cone Electric Service Inc. in Auburndale, Fl. Mr. Cone was the longest serving commissioner in history of Winter Haven, Fl serving from 1994-2007 and was the mayor of Winter Haven, Fl from 1995-1997. He was a member of the Electrical Council of Florida, Polk County Chapter; was a 14 year member of the Kiwanis Club of Winter Haven, Fl and the Tri-Lakes Kiwanis Club of Branson, Mo.
Survivors include daughter, Tracey Cone Braun and fiancé Larry M. King of Acworth, Ga; son, Charles (Chuck) W. Cone II and wife Carol Jane (CJ) of Double Oak, Tx; his partner in life, Jennifer Cone of Branson, Mo; step-son, Gerald (Chuck) Moses of Fl; Sister, Helen Cone Bowlick and husband Donald of Douglasville, Ga; brother, Frederick Wayne Cone of San Antonio, Tx and sister, Dixie Cone Register and husband Larry of Palm Harbor, Fl; grandchildren, Kristen Shoudel, Adam Murdock, Charlie Cone and Chandler Cone; 2 great grandchildren; his beloved cat "Greaser" and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by sisters Peggy Cone Barfield and husband Alvin Barfield, Jr and Louise Cone Stegall and husband James (Jimmy) Stegall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kiwanis of Winter Haven Foundation, Inc., 42 Lake Link Circle SE, Winter Haven, Fl 33884.
