She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Barthelmess, and her second husband, Archie Compton. Mrs. Compton received a teaching degree from Peabody College in 1932.
She was employed for many years at Jacksonville Naval Air Station before retirement. She was an avid golfer.
Survivors include two nephews, Edward O'Donoghue and family and Emory Cain and family.
Mrs. Compton was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday Jan 6, 1999 in Riverside Memorial Park with Rev. Mike Sease officiating. The family request those desiring to send memorials to Hospice NorthEast. Arrangements by TOWN AND COUNTRY FUNERAL HOME, 7242 Normandy Blvd.
