This article was taken from the Adirondack Journal in a column titled 100 years ago: September 1899.
A wedding in high life on the summit of Harrington Hill was celebrated. The contracting parties were Samuel Stanton, a prominent resident of that neighborhood, and Mrs. Sophina Bennett. (note that name is spelled differently) The ceremony was performed by Judge Louis Reoux at the residence of the bride's cousin, Norman Bennett. A wedding breakfast, which was greatly enjoyed, was served immediately after the ceremony.
Sophronia married 3rd after 1903 to Hency C. "Hadley" Combs
Sophronia (Bennett) Combs, was married three times but never had any children. She was very small and short in stature. Slightly over four feet tall. She wore high heeled, high buttoned shoes. In her early years, she was a rather proud person; and to a small child (like this one was) her pierced ears and earrings , were very noticeable. After the deaths of her husbands, she went to live with nephew "Jimmie Bennett's" Family. After a while her health became very poor and her memory failed. She entered the Warren County Nursing Home where she died.
The Warren County Nursing Home back at the time when Sophronia died was called Almshouse, and the Almshouse Cemetery. She is listed as being buried in the Almshouse Cemetery printed out by Tom Lynch of the Warren County Municipal Center. Head stone in the Almshouse cemetery under the name of Sophronia Combs.
Actual birth date is 1 Jan. 1851 from Father's Bible.
