Cerebral Hemorrhage Fatal to Motor Radio Firm Auditor
Daniel J. Collins, Jr., 26 years old, 3006 North Seventeenth Street, Kansas City, KS, auditor for the Motor Radio Company, Inc., died last night at the Winter General hospital in Topeka. He had been in the hospital nine weeks and died of a cerebral hemorrhage.
Born in Chicago, Collins had lived in Kansas City, KS, since a small child. He was a graduate of the Quindaro grade school and the Wyandotte High School and had attended Rockhurst College and the Finlay Engineering College.
A lieutenant in World War II, he was a flight instructor at a Norman, OK, air base. Collins was a member of the Quindaro Methodist Church.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Virginia Collins; a daughter, Patricia Anne Collins and a son Daniel J. Collins III, all of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel James Collins, Sr., 2262 Russell Avenue, Kansas City, KS; a sister, Mrs. William J. Troupe, 7143 Alhambra Road, Johnson County, and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Fannie Best, 2262 Russell Avenue, Kansas City, KS.
The body will be sent to the Fulton Chapel in Kansas City, KS.
This memorial is managed by Daniel's granddaughter. He died when my mother was very small so I never had the opportunity to meet him.
The Collins/Best (includes Daniel James Collins III & IV, Mabelle Best Collins and Fannie Hobrough Best) headstones are on the hill with (just to the north of) the cannon statue in the cemetery.
