G. Wallace Colgan, 83, of Prospect Park, a Marine Corps veteran, died April 17 at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland.

Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Colgan was educated at Lower Merion High School and the Granoff Music School in Philadelphia.

A former Marine, Mr. Colgan was also a talented musician. He was a member of the Media-based Retired Seniors Volunteer Program Band, as well as in a retired Mummers string band, the Hardly Ables.

Known for his love of music, Mr. Colgan especially enjoyed playing the saxophone.

A devoted family man, Mr. Colgan loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved the Jersey shore.

Mr. Colgan was son of the late Frank J. and Edith Wallace Colgan.

Survivors: Wife of 59 years, Mary Louise Nelson Colgan; daughters, Carol Ann Brett of West Chester, Patricia Miles of Norwood, Virginia MacGregor and Alice Pilling, both of Ridley Park, and Jean Ann Smith of Springfield; sons, G. Wallace Colgan Jr. of Garnet Valley, Robert Colgan of Ridley Park, Timothy Colgan of Houston, and Christopher Colgan of Prospect Park; 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren.

Service: 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Gabriel Church, 233 Mohawk Ave., Norwood.

Visitation: After 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Burial: SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Marple.

Arrangements: Cavanagh Family Funeral Home and Private Crematory, Norwood.
